About Us

O’Brien House was established in 1971 to serve adult recovering alcoholics and drug addicts. The center was named for Paul S. “Pat” O’Brien, who spent 53 years of his life working with alcoholics and educating the public about the disease of alcoholism. Through the years, O’Brien House has drawn the appreciation and support of the Baton Rouge community.

Over the past 40 years, the services of O’Brien House have evolved into a more comprehensive continuum of care that includes treatment, prevention and community development initiatives. Services include the following:

  • 60 Residential Treatment Beds and 10 Inpatient Treatment Beds
  • Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs
  • Adult Substance Education Program (ASEP), a component of District Attorney’s DWI Diversion Program
  • Parenting Classes
  • Grief Counseling
  • Spiritual Support
  • Recreational Therapy
  • HIV/STD Testing
  • Prevention Classes
  • Educational Services
  • Social Enterprises
  • O’Brien House hosts two Amricorps Delta Service Corps members who are responsible for providing health education and outreach programs for children and youth at risk for addiction and/or unhealthy lifestyles.
With these support services, our clients can stabilize their lives, focus on recovery and prepare for a new life after they leave O'Brien House.
Our Vision...

As the Greater Baton Rouge area continues to grow, O’Brien House plans to expand and help meet the ever growing demands of the population we serve. We are always looking for new and better ways to provide the treatment and environment most conducive to recovery. We are currently developing a new Social Enterprise to provide additional funds for the organization, as well as employment opportunities for our clients. Our newly developed Intensive Outpatient Program is being offered to area businesses to reduce workforce turnover due to substance abuse. Community partnerships are allowing us to offer additional services to our clients, as well as providing our services to other agencies. As we continue to expand, we are confident that O’Brien House will be “saving lives and families from alcoholism and drug abuse” far into the future!
