O'Brien House Recognized
for
40 Years of Service
by
Caroline Sarpy
An award for 40 years of
service was presented to O’Brien House by the National Council on
Alcohol and Drug Dependence. The award was given to recognize the
organization’s success and longevity in the Baton Rouge community.
Director
of O’Brien House, Katherine Martin said this about the honor, “As we
go on to the next phase of growth and development, I want to thank
everyone involved in all program activities. The O’Brien House team
has once again proven its loyalty and continues to pursue the
mission of O’Brien House.”
One of
the major changes is a shift to a two-part prevention program
incorporating prevention plus treatment for their clients. “Now
O’Brien can place clients in appropriate levels of treatment instead
of in general care,” says Lisa Waxman, OBH Clinical Director.
The
Children’s Prevention Program is another recent expansion at O’Brien
House educating children and families about positive, substance free
lifestyles.
O’Brien
House joined the local NCADD chapter, The Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Council of Baton Rouge, in 1999 as a way to continue expanding their
program, mission and goals.
Pat
O’Brien, O’Brien House’s founding father, sat on the board of ADAC.
Since the death of O’Brien 18 years ago, O’Brien House has continued
to use his inspiration and belief in the organization to continue
its work and constantly expand its services to the community. Now 40
years later, Martin appreciates all the members, clients and staff
for continuing Pat O’Brien’s vision and making O’Brien House
successful.
