O’Brien House Brings Back Family Traditions
By Kate Lacinak
Due to the hustle and bustle of daily life,
family traditions are often lost in the chaos. O’Brien House is
striving to bring back such traditions as family meals and
communication through its “Strengthening Families” program.
The program is open to resident families of two
designated South Baton Rouge Housing Authority developments, whether
traditional, extended or blended. The bi-weekly program involves
learning new family skills, activities and family meals.
“You can really see a positive difference in the
families involved in the program,” said Yolanda Mulkey, prevention
programs director.
The group also sponsors family trips
to places such as the Folsom Global Wildlife Center, the LSU Rural
Life Museum and the Baton Rouge Zoo.
“It’s great that we are able to take
these excursions because many families involved in the program do
not have access to transportation for these types of family
outings,” said Mulkey.
